I got a similar quote for a shop just to press out and in new upper and lower ball joints on my 83 steering knuckles. I told the guy that I could buy a harbor freight press for that (it didn't need the hydraulic, but they're cheap enough too). He told me to have at it. On the way there I passed a tire store that I sometimes use, and asked the guy behind the counter what they'd do it for. He said he could have his mechanic do it for $25 on his break for the extra money. When I came to pick it up, because it was cash, he just charged me $20. It pays to look around a bit.
