oh fuel would get filtered all right. but you'd be expsoig the dirty side to the engine, and washing the junk into the fuel rail if it was installed backwards. It filters going either way - it's just that when it's installed the right way, junk collects on the outside where there is more surface area. One should always empty out the filter, backwards, onto a clean dish to see what's in there, whenever the fuel system is worked on, or the filter is changed etc. Very useful information.

as I mentioned in my other post........ I have seen a fuel filter go from 'nearly clogged' to 'wont' run' just from disturbing it. It was a Saab ..............fuel filter was in the way of the oil filter. just unbolted the filter from it's bracket, didn't open any fuel lines or anything. Changed the oil filter. botled the fuel filter back in place. Car would not start. Cleaing or replacing the fuel filter fixed it.
