here's what's normal..........it's very clear when the rocker has contacted a lifter that is properly pumped up. On those you go the 1.5 turns past there. if it's squishy, like you say, which is a good way to describe it ........ what I do is go just a bit past contact and tighten down the rocker screw. Then later after it's run a while, I check them again. if any are stil squishy............I try to not go too far past initial contact. maybe a half turn. Seems a bit hard to tell when initial contact happens. Eventually they get quiet.
