During about 400 miles round trip yesterday in NW Oregon, I saw 6 vanagons being used and a few parked. Went to a cycle event. West along I-84 I saw three westies, in seperate encounters, two with sailboards and bikes on top. Then south along I-5 towards Corvallis, I ran alongside an extra nice silver fancy van. Then west again on Hwy 30 I saw another headed to the Oregon coast. At the bike race there were three of us, two GLs and me and I had lots of admiring comments from other bikers...Many were coveting the room and accommodations in my "team bus" as I pulled cold Gatorade from my fridge, changed clothes on my clean carpets, listened to Lyle Lovett on my stereo while lounging on my "couch".. Leaving home at 5am with a deserted interstate and plenty of time in hand to get to Corvallis, I drove at 60mph and got an amazing 29.1 mpg! My all-time best ever mileage. Don Hanson |
