Looks like the way do do this is to unbolt the rear seat. Don't have to completely remove it, just unbolt it from the sides so the front crossbar can be lifted to clear the heater box. Then tip the box up at the rear while sliding it forward.

Now that I have the core uncovered, I see no evidence of leaking but the antifreeze smell was unmistakable last time I ran the blower.

I assume if I take the core to a radiatator shop they can determine if it's leaking -- or is there a better next step? I saw a couple of mentions of O-rings here and there....
