My view, ideally no you should not, but if a carburetor conversion is a way to keep an otherwise serviceable vehicle on the road, there's some benefit to that -- new car production is certainly far from environmentally harmless, when you take into account the entire process (from raw materials to finished product).

And I doubt whether a well tuned carbureted waterboxer would be THAT much more polluting than a digifant with a failing ECU or worn out injectors.
