There are only two possibilities, right or wrong.

When it is wrong you will find it impossible to adjust ignition timing. With #1 piston at TDC the distributor rotor will point to an opposite direction rather than the mark on the distributor. Just pull the distributor shaft, turn it 180 degree and reinsert it. Well, this is not official of course. But that's how I did it.
