I think it's a different mindset of the parents, rather than the kids.  When
I was young, my friends and I all had crappy unreliable motorcycles and
cars, and if you wanted to get around, you worked on them.  Now, here in
Kalifornia anyway, it seems that every 16 year old gets a new BMW :o(
