DEAN POTTER'S BASE SOLO ON THE EIGER Last week Dean Potter soloed part of the Eiger with only a parachute for protection. On August 6, he climbed the 600-foot headwall of Deep Blue Sea (5.12+), a 1000-foot free route on The North Face of The Eiger. With a specially designed 5.5 pound parachute, he climbed the overhanging section of the route with the hope that if he fell he would be able to safely deploy the parachute. http://www.alpinist.com/doc/web08x/newswire-potter-eiger-freebase |
