Subject:      Update on new Boston Bob engine in my 87 Westy

My son and I put in a new Boston Bob engine and AA Tranaxle transmission in my 87 Westy last month. About two weeks ago we got it in and running. Other than some minor coolant leaks and other adjustments it fired up on the first try. We followed Bob's recommendations to change the oil after 15 and 30 minutes of running. Then drove it at varying speeds (city and country driving seemed to work well) for 300 miles and dumped the oil and filter again.

Today was the first "extended" trip on the interstate. We did a quick 40 mile round trip. So far so good!! Cruised at 60 mph (will increase speed in a few more miles) with the A/C both on as well as off. Water temp gauge was just slightly below the coolant light cruise. Oil (half and half mix of 10/30 and 20/50) pressure was 28 psi and 210 degrees F.

Good throttle response and acceleration (no full throttle all out acceleration yet). Engine and transmission seem to be much quieter than the original engine/transmission combination.

The only remaining "issue" is the O2 sensor. I disconnected it for the first 300 miles and then connected it. It seems that when I start off in 1st the engine bogs. If I start off with a little more throttle, there doesn't seem to be a problem. When I do a quick on and off with the ignition key, it clears up for a while and then starts again. I've re-disconnected the sensor for now and the bog has gone away. Perhaps its because of the new engine and oil in the exhaust? The engine has rebuilt injectors, new O2 sensor, cat, etc.

Any ideas?
