times and there is a ton of information in the archives. Basically you may
win or you may loose. You can try all the tricks in the rusted, corroded bolt,
stud, nut removal tool box and still loose. Those are steel studs in
aluminium threads or steel nuts with no sides on steel threads. Remember, if your
van is still in OEM condition there are bolts on LH side and studs on the RH
side, so dealing with those two are different scenarios. I advocate
removing the studs and using all bolts in all eight locations. This is the only way
you will ever get the surface of the port flat and clean so the new gasket
will seat properly. This also allows the replacement of a failed gasket or
removal of a head, with the engine in the van, if necessary without removing
the header pipes. New bolts should be 8 mm x 35 mm stainless steel with flat
and lock washers.
