Not found in my Westy but in a Syncro Westy I was looking at to possibly buy. It was a legal import from Canada and may have originally been sold in Europe. While poking around the inside looking for rust (there was a lot of seam rust on the outside, that's why I didn't buy it) I opend the 'secrect compartment' and pulled out a dusty, never opend (it looked) VW issue from the factory First Aid Kit. The owner was astonished, he not only had never seen it but was unaware of that hidden storage area. I told him that there were collectors that would probably pay a premium for that first aid kit.
