"ah................., the old 'justify not repairing it' thing." Hey I resemble that remark.....seriously though If I was driving the van on a regular basis or we were still able to go camping I would fix it. Cider Season began for us which is a seven day work week until New Years Eve. I was going to fix it,replace all the hoses ect.. Pull the motor and regasket it with a new set of lifter.BUT... Instead I am going to do and engine swap this winter AND replace the radiator, heater cores, all hoses, pipes, new clutch with the swap, rebuilt the cv's,replace all wheel bearings, replace all of the shifter bushings, boots any wearable part. I already just installed new rims, tires, rebuilt the entire front end with new calipers, rotors, pads, bearing, ties rods, bushings, the rubber connector at the base of the column. When I have the rear apart I will replace the bushing, bearing, brake stuff, e-cables ect... In the spring this van is going to be a like new reliable cross country trip ready vehicle. I'll also service the reefer, finish my 12 volt upgrade for the cabin lights outlets,ect..,replace the canvas, vent and vent hardware seal ect.. I have an invertor from my old van I will install that will provide a a/c outlet in the van. I wire it up so the bottom out of both receptacles is invertor powered. Going down the road GoWesty does minus the complete paint job. Leaving that alone as I am going to be following a airstream travel trailer for a few thousand miles. There is no rust on it though just a dent in the hatch and small one in the rear drivers quarter. I have most of the above parts stowed away just for this project. The missing puzzle piece is the motor swap. Thought I had the money for the Zetek but still have a little way to go. I am known among our circle of vw buddies over here for overbuilding everything.
