Thanks for the tips on calipers and brake hardware Dennis.
I didn't see any shims. Just some kind of "goop" (antisqueal I guess)
on the back of the pads.
Rotors are good at 12.5 mm each. Pads have lots of wear left.
They look like semi metallic "at least" but for all I know, they could
be metallic.
The calipers look old enough to be original, but I highly doubt that.
One aspect of the sound I'm hearing, is that the engine is quieter at
or near idle (Jetta 2.0) as opposed to the air cooled that was in
there. The sound I'm now hearing when coasting up to a stop sign, may
have been there all along.
