My 84 Westy (with AC) had the hot foot problem real bad. No way would you want to drive bare footed! I removed some of the cardboard deflectors per Bentley and put a layer of foil-backed insulation under the carpet. No more hot foot.

For some reason my 90 (also with AC) does not have that problem, so I think VW must have fixed it or the PO did the Bentley mod. However, the foam seal on the air box is shot, so I have to tear into the dash at some point to fix that. Not looking forward to that project. Meanwhile, I tried sealing up the front air intake to block the hot air from coming in. It worked, but when the AC was not needed it got awful stuffy inside and had to roll down the windows often. Turns out it was not a very good solution, so I unplugged the intake vent and will live with the hot air leak until I get in there to re-foam the vent flap.

Cheers
