I couldn't have said it better myself. I agree with every part of what Jim wrote.

The fact that the Vanagon List keeps going strong, despite several forum alternatives already in place, would seem to indicate that not everyone here prefers a forum. For those who do, that option already exists (there are several, but the Vanagon forum at TheSamba is my favorite), and certainly there is room to start another if you feel that the existing ones are lacking.

I like the forums. I also like the Vanagon List. There is room for both, which is why both have coexisted for some time.

Incidentally, the Eurovan List was in a similar situation a few years ago, when someone set up a forum as an alternative. In that case it turned out that most members preferred the list format; the list still thrives, whereas the forum never gained momentum.
