I believe that you can put a 1Z or AHU (from a 1994-1999.0 Golf or Jetta, or B4 Passat) will fit. The ALH and newer engines (1999.5 or higher, or 1998 Beetle) will not fit, as the oil filter bracket will hit the engine lid.
