I agree with both Neil and Scott. It's a missed detail. Just a littel background on the mechanic doing the install. He converted my Doka to autotrans about 2 years ago. He forgot to attach a ground wire which caused the engine to die when the trans was shifted to "DRIVE". During that incident, he refused to tell me what he did to finally fix the problem. He just said he figured it all out. I suspect it is more of the same.

Neil, this is attached to a "dumb" Vanagon auto tranny.
