3M makes some pretty powerful adhesive remover. Can't remember the name of it, but I've removed many a duct tape mess with it.

Speaking of repairing poptops, we've had great experience using dental floss to sew the seam, and then cover it with outdoor rated clear silicone sealer. Looks decent, and holds well.
