Thanks for the info everyone, the reman (to answer Mark's question) was bad almost out of the box. I put it on, started it up, and it seemed OK. Two days later (today) my wife went to drive it, and NOTHING. It had drained the battery so low that it wouldn't even run the digital clock! Figure that.

I asked about the wiring earlier because I wanted to make sure I had not wired it up wrong. I hadn't. Luckily there was another one in town and I got it installed this afternoon. It's the third reman on the car, all free after the first one. The one on the car that's working now is not the same brand as the bad one I installed previously.
