Jeff,

It sounds like you have bad bulbs. They are both double-filament bulbs. One filament is for running light while the other is for turn signals. I suspect filament for running on driver's is good while filament for turnsignal is bad. Vice versa on the opposite side. This can also be caused by poor contacts in the socket as well as bad wiring.

Do the simplest things first. Remove and inspect the bulb. Replace if any of the filaments is broken. Replace bulb as necessary. Inspect and clean sockets. If neither of these solve your problems, then it is time to look at the wiring. Your headlight re-wiring job is probably coincidental.
