I have a 2.3 GoWesty in my 2wd GL. It came in a (salvage title) van wrecked just 16K after the 2.3 was installed. This thing is pretty quick so, shortly after its arrival, was christened 'White Lightning.' This engine has a very tight feel and hits any mph target with what feels like much less effort. This translates into a very relaxed driving experience. I would label this engine as a perfect fit for this vehicle. Even when I loaded it down with all my rafting equipment and two people (estimate around 1500lbs,) I caught myself doing 85mph several times. BTW all the above is while driving at 6500' plus. I consider the performance to be amazing at this altitude and imagine that at sea level it should be pretty surprising. This engine also came with a 30K warranty, which GoWesty agreed to honor both when I took ownership and also in the event that I transfer the engine into another Vanagon.

Gracias, Miguel
