If it's doing the job I'd be inclined to leave it be.

Real. Not huge, but real. And R&R unavoidably stresses the flue tubing and may make a potential leak into a real one.

Seems likely.

You could take off the cover plate on the outer fitting and vacuum through the central hole. Not likely to bother anything that way. If your vacuum will act as a blower, that would be even better, keep any crud moving toward the outlet. In either case I'd also open the drain cap so as to suck/blow out anything resting there.
