Similar thing happened to me a week ago when I was cleaning the engine bay. I had unplugged the connector going to the air cleaner unit (air flow meter), and the van would start up without a problem, and even allow me to start to drive. But without fail, 20 seconds later it would die when I gave it gas.

This is different from when I have left the oxygen sensor unplugged, which allowed me to get a couple miles down the road before it sputtered out.
