A slightly cheaper alternative from the MB quarts(need to hear them
someday and see what all the hype is about), is the Focal speakers
made in France. I bought the cheapie 6.5" mid bass and tweeter
separates and still spent $300, but that was many years ago. Yes, I
cut the big hole down by the floor and did the Dynamat thing on the
doors. I even fabricated carbon fiber stiffeners for the door panels
so they don't vibrate; 3/16" thick no less. Yeah, 75 solid watts
feeds them nicely. My Syncro project, I'm going to cheap out and use
the 6 speaker "premium amplified" stereo speakers from our old Town
and Country Minivan(made by Infinity) and see how they do.
The only problem I see mounting 6.5" any kind of speaker on that rear
AC plastic housing is that you're making the support areas even
thinner than before AND adding more weight. On top of that, there's
no cabinet enclosure to enhance the lower frequencies(pretty much
open air back there). Should you add a quality amp to really make
the speakers sound good, then the factory wiring becomes inadequate;
not to mention 17-25 year old wire.
