this is why a Remote Starter Switch is an absolutely essential trouble shooting tool. By using one you separate the 'ignition on' function from the 'crank the starter function' ............ You should also just check for power in the right place, like at the coil with the key in the on position. - though that doesn't fit with the symptom of stumbling or hesitating. Besides idle switch adjustment, AFM also popped into my mind.
