My 85 westy had that issue as well. Replaced the Temp 2 and it didnt help but found that the wire from the temp 2 to the brain was intermittant and would
run good once and crap the next even barely stumble home kind thing.
another issue that I had was the lifters were over charging and making it not fire on a certain cylinder. So I would drive along and start to loose power and
have hesitation. since it started to run on 3 cylinders. found that one with a compression tester. Tested the cylinder and it had 0 psi adjusted the valves to 0
clearance and bingo great compression. Those were my demons on my 85. Both were corrected and it ran great. converted to a zetec so now the motor
sits on a dolly waiting for a suitable donor.
