On one of my Vanagons (I have four, remember?) I keep a spare set of keys in magnetic box nestled in the crossmember behind the grille. If you didn't know what to look for you'd never see it as it's partially hidden by the headlight wiring harness and it doesn't say something dumb like "Hide-a-key" or anything else for that matter. Anyway, if a screwdriver isn't handy when needed, a penny serves to gain access.
