Yes, the were very quick to get back to me after writing my letter. My letter was mainly geared towards bringing an inexpensive camper back. My point was that when they sold a camper in the 60's it was today's dollar equivalent of $22,000. OK, give 'em extra dough for airbags and anti-lock brakes but keep the price below $30K. I mentioned that demand outstripped supply in years past and wouldn't that be a wonderful problem to have. Sure, they could sell a $60K camper here but they would probably sell about 500 a year.

My only gripe with that new microbus concept is the drivers seat is halfway back into the van like a regular minivan. The rear seats almost touch the rear window. Seems like there is even less space than the Eurovan.

Bryan - I think you could be very correct on this. Like I said I received the letter from VWoA that said they had no plans to build another Vanagon/Bus type vehicle. However, I think that could have been a smoke screen. Why else would they respond so quickly to the letters we wrote? They also called and called (although I never spoke to anyone - phone tag). I think it's very possible - I just hope it's less flash and more utility. They could really hit a home run if they use the same approach they did with the New Beetle - that as we all know and have discussed - was a huge success.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Putting all the pieces together it seems that there is quite a possibility that VW will build the microbus here. I do thing that VW will NEVER admit it until they start production. That would only hurt Routan sales. Then again, if the Routan is a success (doubtful but not impossible) the 2 vans really aren't competition for one another so they could actually co-exist.
