I couldn't help myself, so I Googled "push rod cover". Most of the responses were for Harleys, model plane engines, or the covers that go on the side of the block on V8 engines (one listing for an MG).

I only went a few pages in (got bored), but that's all I found.

Cheers,

Jeff

I'm amazed you've never heard of VW push rod tubes. That's extremely common terminology. Google it if you want. I've never called valve covers, "tubes," nor said that anyone did, if that's what you're implying.

I've worked on much more than VWs, so I'm familiar with the more universal usage of "push rod cover." Given the makeup of this list, there's no reason to assume that someone asking an apparently simple question is using VW specific terminology.

On an air-cooled, I would have called the item in question "the lower engine tin," which is what I've most often heard it called (sometimes "heater box tin").
