AJ, I agree with Mike, I don't think there will be enough room to get a socket on a regular bolt. Just use anti-seize and recommended torque.

A more important matter we need to address is that of dealing with negative karma whilst performing maintenance on you trusty steed. I want to commend you on your strategies to avoid "un-pleasantries". I have also found it a challenge to make these times tolerable. But with some foresight (being in tune with your vehicles needs), careful planning (having all the parts purchased in advance), getting psyched for the job and allowing yourself enough time so you don't feel rushed; it might even be an enjoyable event. Unfortunately, in the real world where a Vanagon is your primary means of transportation, shortcuts are taken.
