If that chunk is bothering you, you might try and run a piece of the clear vinyl hose from a hardware store(may have to experiment with diameters and stiffnesses) through the larger starter opening and duct tape it to your vacuum cleaner hose and see if you can suck it up that way. 1/4x1/4" piece is prolly too big to get in the clutch fingers, but who knows?

BTW, Bus Depot sells those bushings and they are really inexpensive. I bought three the last order just to have some around. Other vendors would likely have them too.
