Seems to me that this is getting a little close to an already-existing name (though not used in the US), the Toyota Voltz... which is the current Corolla liftback name in Japan... but of course in a different market the same name can be used by another manufacturer (eg City, Cresta, Century etc).

... sold in the US as Matrix and "Pontiac Vibe"... and probably sedan versions under other GM names as well (though most of the small "GM" cars sold there are probably actually rebadged Daewoos).

as for GM and their dreams.......... here and there, they're doing it. ( though they didn't envision the SUV back in the 50's/ 60's, ) the modern corvette is certainly world class, and a whole lot of exotic car

It's anything but exotic. Exotic means only this: FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. A Lada is Exotic in the US. An AMC Pacer is exotic in Germany. A Ferrari is native in Italy. A Chev Cravat is native in USA, not an exotic, and anything but world-class. A chile pepper is native to South America. It is exotic in India. Exotic does NOT mean esoteric, mystical or "advanced".

Like all US-market cars except the Holden Commodore, the Cravat is dumbed-down for poseurs who just want to cruise. Find the tight bumpy curves and it falls on its face where a Ferrari, Nissan Skyline GT-R or Holden Commodore will bring great grins to the mug of an experienced enthusiast driver. Soft springs, softer dampers, suspension/steering geometries that cannot even be modified for good handling. American's don't realize this because they have only US-market cars to judge by.

Who belives that the current "retro" Frod Mustbang is a sporty and handles? It ain't and it don't. It's been tested against the Commodore in Australia and found sadly lacking.

GM is in poo, Frod is ditching its American models (and this time I hope they don't corrupt the European Frods' suspensions) and Christler... ditched by Mercedes because it couldn't make a real car. Hemi?? Despite its claims and badging, Chrysler has never made a hemi! Let the flames begin... but don't lets allow it to go so far as get a message from the sponsor.
