are you sure you put the water pump pulley on correctly ? It will 'conveniently' ( not ) fit backwards, and the belt alignment will be off, by a whole belt's width. it's easy to not notice this too. It'll work a while until it jumps off. Alternator mounting is a weak link on waterboxer engines too. You want to make sure all that stuff is nice n' tight. I probably have a dozen waterboxer dipstick tubes with dipsticks if you'd like to buy one.
