I could be wrong, but I believe VW was selling TDI diesel cars all along, in the 'other states' besides the 5 states that have tougher emissions laws. California is the main one, and leader..........and a few others follow their lead - Vermont is one ........ I forget the other 3 right now. And , I think this is correct too - Ca has never outlawed new diesel cars - they just make the emission standards so tough that they're hard to meet. Now manufactures are going to urea injection and coming out with 50 state models I believe, like Mercedes, I think their new Blue-tec diesels are 50 state.

hopefully those don't stink and make a ton of racket like most diesel trucks and many cars. About big pick-up trucks and diesel engines, like a Ford F-250 ..........plenty of them in Southern Oregon ........ and you can't tell me they're not obnoxiously noisy at idle, and the exhaust is smelly too.................. rather a turn off and I can imagine it's healthy to breathe.
