Well I got the water pump back on and used new stainkless allens with anti-seize and replaced a couple of the hoses while it was all exposed. All is good with the world. For about 10 minutes!!! I drove up on the ramps to bleed the cooling system. Ran it up to about 2500 and then the bang. The alternator belt decided it was done and it wanted off the ride. As the broken belt was whirling around it also took the dipstick and tube with it. I have a dipstick stuck in a tube shaped like an s sitting on the floor.I now know why there is such an attachment to the Vanagons. You spend as much time working on it as you do with your family and slowly it becomes a member of the family because of the involvement of time. I am going to see what I can do about making a secure bracket for the alternator. Something that wont bend. I dont know what to do about the dipstick and the tube. I dont suppose anyone on the list just happens to have one laying around? Any suggestions an the bracket for the alternator?

A J
