About 8000 miles ago this was a new crate motor from VW. The PO didnt replace all the sattallite parts though such as the alternator etc. From the looks of things I believe they didnt even put new belts on. I am going to do all the belts after I get this bracket thing fixed. I removed the alternator and the bracket that mounts to the motor for the pivot assembly has been welded in the past, they didnt even fix that just put the same old scrap on the new motor.I do believe that this lower assembly though welded was done improperly and is allowing the alternator to sit at an angle rather than square and true to the rest of the pulleys. If anyone has these parts available I would be forever grateful. I will also check all the nooks and crannies for belt particles that have strayed. In the mean time I am going to the local wrecking yard and am going to look around. Maybe I can adapt something "stockier" from say a Chevrolet or something. I did have plans of installing a refrigerator and a dual battery assembly but it looks like the funding is going to go for just getting the Vanagon back in decent running condition. And to think I have this 79 here because I figured I would "tinker" with an air cooled, right. Anyone want to trade a complete 79 automatic bus for a water cooled? A parts water cooled even :)
