hi Roger,
maybe that's it ..........the diesel fuel is getting to your brain ! .lol.
'flow control valve' .........????
Did not notice your posting on that, but I usually read your posts.
I'm on about a dozen groups too many, and way, way too many emails come in, and I didn't stay on top of it for the last few days, so must have missed it.
Didn't notice any Laston Lastof either.
pmail it to me perhaps ........?
smiles, Scott .

Hi Roger,
I didn't see where the guy said what type of vanagon it is.........
but I assumed waterboxer...........if it is a waterboxer, there's no timing belt of course.
But them diesels.............the t-belt is totally critical on those, of course.
One hint that it's likely a waterboxer is the dipstick part ........it goes right through the alternator belt on a wbxr. and is susceptible to the alt belt taking it out, evidently !

note to broken alt belt replacement procedure
my last belt failure sent pieces into the timing belt cover
there one lodged between belt and gear-
lost timing on an already tired engine -
lost engine -
soooo- before you say there all done as you brush dust off your hands
check under the cover for bits of shrapnel form the exploded alt belt

Well I got the water pump back on and used new stainkless allens with
anti-seize and replaced a couple of the hoses while it was all exposed. All
is good with the world. For about 10 minutes!!! I drove up on the ramps to
bleed the cooling system. Ran it up to about 2500 and then the bang. The
alternator belt decided it was done and it wanted off the ride. As the
broken belt was whirling around it also took the dipstick and tube with it.
I have a dipstick stuck in a tube shaped like an s sitting on the floor.I
now know why there is such an attachment to the Vanagons. You spend as much
time working on it as you do with your family and slowly it becomes a
member
of the family because of the involvement of time.
I am going to see what I can do about making a secure bracket for the
alternator. Something that wont bend. I dont know what to do about the
dipstick and the tube. I dont suppose anyone on the list just happens to
have one laying around? Any suggestions an the bracket for the alternator?
