It maybe an entirely different debate of who is more redreck, Calgary or
Quesnel, but most don't have GPSs hanging from the windscreen, probably
satellite radio you are seeing!
At any rate, I bought what I
think is a pretty cool GPS; a Garmin GPSmap 60CX. I bought this for
my BMW F650GS and soon to be other BMW that I will be buying in Germany to
do my Nordkapp trip in 2009. Plus I do a lot of quadding, it's water
proof so seemed like the perfect thing. This was bought to update the GPS
II+ that I have been using for years. I bought it at "The
Source" for $295 CAD. I also bought the Ram mount system for it
which is totally marvelous.
The reason for the slightly more
expensive 60CX over something like their Legend is the fact it can do turn
by turn directions (no voice though) and the Legend will not. You
can purchase both road and topographical maps for this and install them on
a micro SD card. I have Europe on one 2GB card and Canada
Topographic on another. I could have but both on one, if I only
installed say BC and AB and Scandinavia and Germany sections of the maps I
have. Other features I like is the BIG NUMBERS on it when you have
it on the speed, distance screen. I have mine set to show current
speed, distance and time showed and you can see it at a glance on the bike
or in the car. Of course simple lat and log is easy to show on this
screen as well if that is the only informaiton you are looking for.
They also have geocaching stuff on there if you are into that.
The Ram mount system is really good - ball and socket design, so moving
from vehicle to vehicle is a 30 second event.
