Well, a diesel will get better milage (kilometerage?) than a gas engine of similar size in the same type of vehicle; style of driving doesn't seem to affect economy much in diesels, in my experience. Flat-foot in town (can't say full-throttle, as diesels don't have throttles... but then, do modern EFI cars?) doesn't seem to make them any thirstier than cruising at 110-130 on the highway. However my own experience with 2.4 diesel Hiaces, 80s and 90s models, is that they are still somewhat thirsty, while my 1.8 diesel Corolla and 2.0 Corona are light on fuel (none of these are turbos). With the 2.0 turbo recently fitted the Corolla still seems economical. And the 2.2 turbo Estima falls somewhere in-between. |
