I don't know what diameters this super-gates hose I mentioned comes in. Given that it's either 7 mm or 7.5 mm inside dia that's needed, for very tough hose it's not surprising you can't get 6.25 mm on. If they jump from 1/4 inch to 5/16, that won't do, as 5/16 inch is very close to 8 mm , too big, and 1./4 is too small. ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris S To: Scott Daniel - Turbovans Cc: vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com Sent: Sunday, September 28, 2008 1:31 PM Subject: Re: ALERT! Brand new fuel hoses failing!!!!
I have Gates hose from CarQuest and it is 1/4 in, which is 6.35 mm inner opening diameter vs. the needed 7mm. The hose looks and feels very tough. It is so tough that I can't slip it onto the connector on the fuel T, the one with the fuel pressure gauge hook up. I ended up using it other places.
2008/9/28 Scott Daniel - Turbovans <scottdaniel@turbovans.com> I can't find it now, but ............... I read about a new Gates hose that is compatible with gasoline, methanol, diesel, and biodiesel...... Saw it in an automotive repair trade magazine. I'd want to try some of that hose. I could say this is an example of where 'all new parts' is not better than good working original or OEM type parts, though I'll agree that original 20 year old fuel injection hoses are questionable just from their age. I also get rid of those crimp type original clamps, and put on nice German screw clamps that have rounded edges so they don't pinch or cut the hose. I just pasted that info into Google and ended up at a Samba thread that has the same theme. More than one person reporting rapid deterioration of the COLINE 2134 hose. Thread started July 26, 2008 by John Sullivan. |
