It is not in any true sense a cold start injector. All it is for is to
slightly change the timing of the normal injectors. It injects nothing
into the combustion chamber or intake. Called a "commencement of
injection valve" in many other documents. Used as a cold starting aid in
VW diesel engines beginning in the 90s, including TDI engines. Commonly
known as a cold start valve. Previously this function was performed by a
dash cable actuated device, then switched to this electrically
controlled device.
