Subject:      knocking from rear springs

Thanks to all that responded. I will check out visually items such as the bump stop and listen closely for noises from the rear trailing arm bushings, engine cross members and maybe on each end of the springs. BTW, the Stihlman chassis ears are an electronic listening device that we use at work (Honda dealership) that consists of 6 clip-on microphones on leads that go to a small amplifier with headphones. You can switch to any specific lead to localize a noise. I asked about the upper and lower spring pads as I thought that I recalled someone on the list or on a Vanagon sight reporting worn pads that they fabricated out of a plastic type cutting board to fix such a noise. I know that these are available from several online vendors for around $40-$45 each (2 upper and 2 lower cushion the springs from metal to metal contact). I will report back to the list on my findings after further diagnosis. Thanks to everyone that responded.
