Greetings all, 87 Syncro tid vanagon, freshly built transaxle. Problem is slight crunchy shifting when going into 1st and 2nd, and intermittantly a 'real crunch' , like a bad syncro , upshifting into 3rd. Gear oil is Redline MT-90 The shift linkage is nicely adjsuted, and lubed in the rear at least, and seems to work quite well other than this complaint. Nothing is obviously shot or worn out on the shift linkage. Clutch is freshly gone through, and disengaging cleanly. questions : Can crunchey shifting be likage-related, and not internal to the trans ? Is there a part on the shift linagke that's a common failure point or suspect ? ( while nothing is obviously worn out, shot, or loose/sloppy, I'm glad to replace worn parts if I can identify or 'intuit' a part or two that will make a difference. - like I am suspecious of the 'cup' at the rear of the linkage that the balls on the side lever fit into - though that seems fine enough ) . And.......I just heard that the lever on the side of the trans..........with those balls on it, is not availbale new anymore. hmmm...........bad news. any thouhts or ideas, please. thank you, scott |
