Never owned a Westy, so closest I can come to is to tell of the couple that got standed in Moose Passe in Alask when both ends of the pass were closed by avalances for three days one winter. They were in a early aircooled "Westy", Another couple and their son were also stranded at the same time but they were in their car. It could have been a serious survival episode, but the Westy folk and the couple with the kid connected and all 5 spent the three days in the Westy until the highway crews could get through. Everyone was fine.

As for me, my only claim to fame was once when I had my 85GL I hauled 1500 pounds of plaster and clay about from Anchorage to Kenai, AK - a drive of about 150 miles though the Chugach Mountains. It was in summer. never had a lick of trouble - a bit slow climbing up into Turnagain Pass and then later up into Moose Pass. Most times when not going up hill I crusied at 50 mph. Wouldn't do much better with that load, but the machine handled it well. The load sat on a pallette in the middle of the floor between the front and back seats.
