"People name boats - why not name your bus?"

Well, for one, the registration of the boat requires a name, (at least in Mexico), and with the US Coast Guard too, if you register an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), or a Ham, or single- sideband radio on your boat, the insurance company wants a name, the Port Captains of most ports in the world want a name to call the vessel by. Most vessels are involved with radio nets, and answer and call each other by name in addition to call sign. The vessel not only needs to have a name painted on her, but also a hailing port if she travels in international waters. The list goes on.

None of these requirements, or customs, if you will, apply to motor vehicles. That's why not.
