lol........'mysterious electrical device' ........... it's a heater element. Designed to prevent icing in the breather hose in very cold conditions I imagine. all 2.1 waterboxers have them. it's even an 'add in later' device.........that is, it's not part of the fuel injection wiring harness. Wired independently to get power whenever the key is on I believe. Good point on the smallness of the opening it !
