But there is no other van to use other than a  full size commercial Ford or
Chevy. The only "van" available in this country is the "mini-van" which is
really only a station wagon as far as I'm concerned.  Westfalia does a
pretty nice job of converting small van "like: vehicles in Europe.  People
associate Westfalia with VW. I really don't think a Ford Westfalia is going
to take off.

But it's just going to be another $80K vehicle that nobody is going to buy.




Nobody wants Westfalia to start building vans here more than me but we have
to realize that VW, Westfalia, etc. are businesses out to make money. Not
make cool stuff most of us can only dream of owning because they are so
expensive. As far as I'm concerned the only way Westfalia will survive here
is to build inexpensive conversions in addition to higher end ones.   If
bought a new VW camper it would be for a daily driver and need to be pretty
low priced just like the Westfalia of the 60's. I can't afford a $50K camper
to sit in my driveway to use just for camping and judging by the economy
today there ain't going to be a whole lot of people that can.

From what I'm told Sportsmobile does a pretty decent camper conversion.
