Yes....my family and I call our Syncro "Hidalgo".........remember the movie with Viggo Mortensen....about the spirited mustang stallion that Viggo rode in cross country races.....with the finale being a cross the Arabian desert race against all the Arabian stallions and thoroughbreds (which Hidalgo won.... while knocking at death's door).

Well, we think the Syncro is like the mustang....no thoroughbred but he can get the job done....with an ample dose of personality to boot!

And yes, we do talk to and about Hidalgo.  "C'mon, Hidalgo, get us there, don't fail us now."  "Let's take Hidalgo 'cause we can take all those people, AND their bags".

Interestingly we have NOT named any other cars.  This one has so much personality I think the whole family is fond of the car.  And thinking about it, my middle daughter had a total meltdown at 9 or 10 when we sold our 2WD vanagon to buy the syncro.  That one had no name, but had a glorious history that was a big part of our family history.

Enough....Anthony '89 Syncro GL (Hidalgo)

As I read the posts on this list, I'm more than a little surprised how many people have names for their vehicles. Do people really refer to your vehicles by name? For instance, do you say things like: "Let's take Pinky to the hardware store"?

It just seems kind of odd to me. I've been in the VW scene since the 70's and I can't remember anyone referring to the vehicle by name, unless it was a derogatory name, like: "We can take my POS".

I have to admit that I've named a few vehicles... there's the Red Turd, and the Blue Turd (see derogatory comment above), but that's about it. Hell... I had a cat for 12 years that I only called Cat.

Just curious...

Cheers,

Jeff 4 Dokas, 1 Iltis... and none of them have a name.
