If you drive a 2.1L you need a spare temp 2 sensor. If you don't know the last time it was replaced you need to replace it and get get a second as a spare. At only $23 each it is very cheap insurance. I travelled about 4 hours to Toronto on Friday and all was well. Saturday on the way back from the grocery store the bus stalled right at an intersection and would not re-start. After about 20 minutes the engine cooled and I was able to drive it for a couple more miles. I did this 3 times till I finally returned to my brother's. I knew from a previous episode where I had a bad connection to the temp 2 sensor that it had to be the problem but this time the wiring was good. I was very lucky to find a VW dealer open on a Saturday and had a sensor in stock. After a $40 dollar cab ride and about a 2 minute repair I was up and running again. The point of this story is this: Get a spare sensor NOW! Don't wait get it now. It is a very simple fix that anyone can do without even any formal tools. A quick hand will replace it with minimal fluid loss. Had I not found a dealer with the part in stock I would of been dead in the water in Toronto. I really don't know what I would of done.
